NRA Pistol Instructor Course
Cost: $275.00 + $35 range fee to the range – $75 deposit, and you will be invoiced for $200 once we meet a 4 student minimum required by NRA
This class develops and certifies NRA Pistol Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to teach the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Class, or to apply through Texas DPS to take the Texas License To Carry Instructor Class. Handgun Skills, LLC has been training and certifying NRA Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Instructors for over nine years. We turn out educated and highly qualified instructors.
Part 1 – Basic Instructor Training is Included in this Class.
This all classroom training runs from six to seven hours teaching you the policies, procedures, and teaching methods you must adhere to in teaching any NRA basic course. Part 2 starts immediately after completion of the BIT training.

Instructor Candidates will be split into groups and assigned portions of lesson plans to role play teach to other candidates and the Training Counselor. These exercises are designed to verify that the instructor candidates have the ability to speak confidently and possess a thorough knowledge of the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Class, the Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting book, and the Lesson Plans for the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting – Blended Class.
Instructor candidates must first take and pass the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Class led by an NRA Pistol Instructor to experience how the class is taught as they will be role play teaching lessons from that class. Instructor candidates must pass three exams with a score of 90 or better and pass gun handling exercises and instructor level shooting qualification to be certified as an NRA Pistol Instructor.
Registration
You must register at least 14 days in advance of class to allow time for NRA to ship your training materials to us. If less than four people pre-register the class will be cancelled and deposits refunded. Last minute registrations taken if four people have pre-registered and instructor has any extra NRA Training packets on hand.
We only consider minors under 18 for training if a parent or guardian takes the training with them. Students between 18 and 20 are considered on a case basis.
A $75 deposit paid with your registration is required to reserve a slot for a class. If you cancel attending more than 48 hours prior to the scheduled start time of a class you’ve registered for there will be a $50 cancellation fee deducted from your refund to cover our advance administrative costs. Cancellations within 48 hours of a class starting time are subject to a $75 cancellation fee. If you do not cancel or show up for class, you forfeit your pre-payment.
