This instructor training class develops NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to organize and conduct the NRA Basic Personal Protection in the Home Course for basic self-defense students.

Part 1 – Basic Instructor Training is not Included in this Class and if you haven’t taken BIT within the last 24 months it will be required again and must be scheduled and completed through a NRA Training Counselor prior to the scheduled PPITH Instructor Course.

Personal Protection in the Home Instructor Course Content:

Instructor candidates must already be certified as NRA Pistol Instructors and have taken and passed the Basic Personal Protection in the Home Class as they will be required to role play teach portions of the lessons from that course during the instructor training.  Candidates must demonstrate a confident speaking ability and a thorough knowledge of the NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home Class, the book used in that class, and will be required to fire two shots at a 9” bullseye from a distance of 7 yards within two seconds from a low ready or retention ready position. The shooting qualification will be repeated ten times and instructor candidates must have sixteen out of the twenty shots in the 9” grouping.  Candidates must also have passed the exam for the basic course with a score of 90 or better and pass the instructor exam with a score of 90 or better.

Instructor candidates will need a pistol of 9mm caliber or greater and 100 rounds of ammunition. Holster use on the range is not permitted. Electronic ear protection and eye protection is also required.
